About A/Prof David Szmulewicz
He serves as the founding head of the Balance Disorders & Ataxia Service at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital and is an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at St Vincent’s Hospital. Additionally, he is a Principal Research Fellow and Neurologist with the Neurodegeneration Division at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. A/Prof. David’s research focuses on defining a new form of ataxia called Cerebellar Ataxia with Neuropathy and Vestibular Areflexia Syndrome (CANVAS).
A/Prof. Szmulewicz specializes in diagnosing, treating, and researching a wide range of balance disorders associated with the vestibular system and cerebellum. These disorders often manifest as dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance, which can significantly impact a patient’s quality of life. With his expertise, he provides patients with comprehensive evaluations, accurate diagnoses, and individualized treatment plans tailored to their specific condition.
