About A/Prof David Szmulewicz

A/Prof David is a Neurologist, Neuro-otologist and Medical Researcher, and a highly accomplished professional in the field of medicine and law, who holds a PhD from the esteemed University of Melbourne. 

He serves as the founding head of the Balance Disorders & Ataxia Service at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital and is an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at St Vincent’s Hospital. Additionally, he is a Principal Research Fellow and Neurologist with the Neurodegeneration Division at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. A/Prof. David’s research focuses on defining a new form of ataxia called Cerebellar Ataxia with Neuropathy and Vestibular Areflexia Syndrome (CANVAS).
