He is current Head of the Department of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney and an Honorary Principal Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He runs Huntington’s disease and old age psychiatry outreach clinics in Northern Tasmania.

He graduated in medicine with honours from the University of Sydney.  After training in medicine, surgery, and general psychiatry in Sydney and Melbourne, he completed advanced training in neuropsychiatry at Royal Melbourne Hospital, leading to Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He is a Member of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry, the Faculty of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and the Section of Neuropsychiatry of the RANZCP. He previously worked as a Senior Specialist in Neuropsychiatry at the Victorian Statewide Progressive Neurological Diseases Service, at the Alfred Health Cognitive Decline and Memory Service and as Head of Aged Psychiatry Research at Alfred Health.

Dr Gleason has particular expertise not only in general psychiatry, but also in the interface between psychiatry and other medical specialities, especially neurology.  As a psychogeriatrician (old age psychiatrist), he has extensive experience diagnosing and managing various types of dementia and cognitive disorders as well as psychiatric symptomatology presenting in older people.
