About Dr Peter (Yee-Chiung) Gan

Dr Peter Gan, a distinguished neurosurgeon, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1995. Following this, he pursued fellowship training in general surgery and specialised neurosurgery training at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2004, he attained fellowship status with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, and in 2015, he became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

After completion of his training in 2005 he decided to further his training in all aspects of paediatric neurosurgery with a 1 year fellowship in the paediatric neurosurgical department in British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Dr Gan has also previously worked in the UK as a Consultant Neurosurgeon in adult and paediatric neurosurgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham Childrens hospital.

Dr. Gan specialises in the field of general Neurosurgery. He has a key interest in minimally invasive neurosurgery having used the neuroendoscope to perform hundreds of intracranial and intraspinal procedures. Dr Gan also specialises in Neurovascular Surgery, Neuro-oncology, Cerebrospinal Disorders, Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia, Pain Surgery and Spinal Surgery.

Dr Gan is one of the few neurosurgeons in the world to perform selective denervation surgeries for cervical torticollis.

Dr Gan has published over 35+ papers in peer reviewed medical journals as well as publishing 2 book chapters and presenting at numerous national and international conferences.  In 2007 Dr Gan was invited as one of the keynote speakers at the annual American Association of Neurological Surgeons in Washington, USA where he presented data on paediatric patients below the age of three requiring neurosurgery.

Dr. Yee-Chiung is currently based in Waikato Hospital, New Zealand.
