During his tenure as a consultant psychiatrist overseas, he led outreach programs into remote communities aimed at reducing the mental health gap. Apart from taking a keen interest in improving mental health literacy for the tribal indigenous communities, he also played a key role in research focused on improving quality of life for persons with chronic mental illness. He later moved to Australia and became a fellow of the prestigious Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Sudhakar currently works as a consultant psychiatrist for NSW health at Nepean hospital and Hornsby hospital. He has also worked extensively across several hospitals in Western Sydney during his training years across various specialties in psychiatry. Additionally, he has a keen interest in teaching and is an accredited supervisor for trainee psychiatrists under RANZCP. He has also been associated with research and publications in rehabilitation and geriatric psychiatry.
